Spottitt to Collaborate with Transgrid and Transport for NSW

Spottitt has been selected by Transport for NSW and Transgrid to apply satellite-based and AI-powered technology to automatically detect changing conditions in the NSW road and rail network and to provide real-time insights for Transgrid’s easement route maintenance and planning, respectively.

These projects will be conducted within the GRAVITY Challenge 06 program led by Deloitte Australia, an initiative that brings together start-ups, scale-ups, entrepreneurs and universities to address real industrial and environmental problems using space data. The Collaborate Phase will continue until mid-March 2024.

Lucy Kennedy, co-founder and CEO of Spottitt, says, “As a Data and Technology Provider, this is the third time that we participate in Gravity Challenge and are honored to have been selected by not one but two Challenge Providers this time around. Our team is committed to delivering impactful solutions, and we look forward to collaborating during the upcoming phase.”

Information about Challenge Providers:

Transport for NSW is a New South Wales government transport and road agency, that leads the development of safe, integrated and efficient transport systems, including roads, rail, ferries, and more. The company is interested in exploring the potential of using satellite imagery to manage transport infrastructure across the 800000 square kilometers to ensure its safety and resiliency in even the harshest Australian conditions.

Transgrid builds and maintains the most important electricity network in Australia, providing the backbone of the National Electricity Market. They operate over 13,000 km of high voltage transmission wires and 121 substations in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. The company is keen on investigating the possibilities of satellite data to gain accurate information about access, track location and conditions. This will help crews perform the necessary work without delays, enhance safety for staff traversing on easements, and, ultimately, improve transmission line management and the biodiversity around them.

Niccolo Teodori, Chief Growth Officer, Spottitt, comments, “Being chosen underscores the strength of our value proposition and the innovative edge our solution brings to the table. We have confidence in our ability to provide a robust solution, and we are excited to contribute our expertise to address this challenge effectively.”
